Archipelago is excited to return to Traverse City to run daily workshops focusing on Collective Composition and Popular Music Arranging. The 2 and half hour daily workshops will take place 9am-11:30am and be held at the Right Brain Brewery Facilities. Performances at Traverse Senior Center on July 31st and Right Brain Brewery on Aug 1st.

What is Collective Composition & Popular Music Arranging?
Collective Composition is an opportunity for people to come together and creatively explore and express their stories, ideas and emotions through music. Collective Composition emphasizes the creation and performance of music as something that all people can access, and offers shared experiences through which individuals, communities, and culture can strengthen and expand.
Working in small ensembles, students will broaden their horizons by learning how to arrange music from popular music genres of rock, pop, jazz, funk, etc. Using aural music theory skills, students will transcribe a piece of their choice and then create their own arrangement.
–Learn daily exercises that encourage creativity and musical exploration.
–Have Q&A sessions Guest Artists from around the country.
–Connect fundamental music blocks such as scales, intervals, and chord building to the creative process
–Compose an original piece of music
Open to: Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion, Guitar/Bass, Vocals
Suggested age/level: students should have at least one year of experience on their instrument.
